Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an empirically supported treatment that aims to develop a sustainable relationship with realities which may be out of our control. While prioritizing quality of life and a compassionate understanding of ‘what is,’ ACT provides a path that liberates us from the struggle of trying to control private experiences (i.e. thoughts, feelings, memories, and urges) and instead take committed action towards what truly matters…even though difficult experiences may be there.
ACT builds on the concept that pain is one of the many inevitable parts of life that every human will encounter, though it does not need to control, disempower, or cause us to suffer. In fact, from an ACT perspective, the attempt to control or avoid natural, human processes like thinking and feeling is viewed as the problem and not the solution to maintainable long-term results.
ACT teaches how to foster the psychological fluidity needed to:

-
Create room for challenges when they arrive
-
Wholeheartedly savor fulfilling moments
-
Consistently make values based choices towards how we want to show up in the world
An extremely flexible and straightforward style of treatment (as well as the first Third Wave Behavioral Therapy), research has confirmed ACT’s efficacy with a wide range of clinical concerns, including:
-
Employment Related Stress
-
Anxiety
-

-
Grief
